- The Agnes Spencer Charitable Trust
This trust gives grants to small, community-based organisations working in the fields of welfare, education or the arts. - Businessman John Studzinski was today announced the winner of the Special Beacon Prize for Most Generous Businessman. He was chosen by an independent panel of judges after the public nominated him for his outstanding contribution to charity.
John was chosen for his extensive work in helping people from deprived walks of life. He set up the Genesis Foundation (formerly the John Studzinski Foundation) in 1996 which helps and supports young artists, playwrights and musicians by providing them with practical and financial support in the earliest stages of their careers. He is also Chairman of [Business Action on Homelessness], a unique organisation that changes the perceptions companies have of homelessness and helps homeless people back into employment. The Abbey Charitable Trust offers grants to projects helping disadvantaged people, particularly in areas where Abbey has a significant presence. Grants are usually between £500 and £4,000, and the Trust prefers to fund a complete element of a project, rather than make donations towards general appeals. Pilkington Energy Efficiency Trust
Financial support for research and development projects designed to improve the knowledge or practice of energy efficiency in buildings is available through the Pilkington Energy Efficiency Trust. The Trust will fund, or co-fund, projects whose successful completion is likely to result in the more efficient use of energy in new or existing buildings. Trustees meet to consider applications in late October and April, so paperwork needs to be in the Secretary’s hands by 30 September or 31 March respectively.
